7/29/2010 - The H.E.A.T, a monthly New York Event Promotes Fashion and Talents
"It was a whopping 92 F (and because we are a Canadian magazine) it was a whopping 32 C in New York City, New York. The H.E.A.T. was definitely on for July 10th weekend at New York City's Amnesia Nightclub.
The H.E.A.T (H.ot E.lectrifying A.lluring T.empting) was the place to be. Organized by seven men, Pim Shih (Public Relations Manager), Robert Taliver (Show Coordinator), Ron Lai (Interactive Producer), Jamil St.Hilaire (Business Manager), Eric Perkins (Lighting and Floor Director), Leo Mordis (Marketing Manager) and Taylor Spears (Assistant Show Coordinator) all came together to form "The Set NYC" "

6/29/2010 - The Set presents Heat
"Calling itself ‘the variety show with a twist’ (much like the Partridge Family) The Set NYC showcases a variety of performers within an NYC party setting. This month, they’re bringing Heat to nightclub in the form of a fashion show. Featuring DJ Mikey Beats, it’s a shame they didn’t pull out their “a-list” in terms of performance – but hey, it’s a fashion show. "

9/14/2009 - THE set NYC Is A Perfect Way To Spend A Happy Hour
"Ephman is a sucker for an invitation. Pim contacted him, told him about his show... and Ephman arrived. On time. The only thing was that it was Fashion Week here in NYC, and Ephman had a prior engagement.
Pim is doing something great! And you all should head off to his next event. Here's the website so you can see when the next event is going to happen. www.thesetnyc.com The reason he does this shows is to provide a totally supportive, creative, and good vibe environment for up and coming artists. Good work Pim. It's not like he's making any money of it. He told Ephman "it's a hobby".
Ephman met Kardenni. Who totally proceeded to throw up a mouth full of cards all over him. KEWL. And you really need to watch the video for check out a bit of Sean Donnelly's set. This guy's classic. And yes he does look like Bobby from King of the Hill."

9/10/2009 - Comedy Clash and Happy Hour Show with theSet NYC
"The cats over at theSet NYC have emailed me a few times and it seems like what they are doing is pretty cool. Basically they do modern day variety shows highlighting some of NYC’s great up and coming talent.
Their next event is tomorrow, 9/11 and it’s gonna be a happy hour extravaganza…I think. I don’t actually know what the performances will be of, but drinks will be $3 and there’s gonna be some grub. Oh wait, never mind, here’s a list of the performers. Plus if you go to their website and print out the flyer for the show you can get in for FREE. Otherwise it’s $3.
It sounds like fun. If I was in town I’d be there for sure because I’m gonna bet it’s a great place for networking. If you’re into that kind of thing. Let me know how it is."

7/7/2009 - theSet NYC at Le Poisson Rouge
"A month ago, I posted about a wonderful weekend that included catching Altar Boyz at New World Stages. As a result (I assume) I received an email from Pim, a member of the team that founded theSet NYC.
theSet NYC is a great idea. Collect a group of talented performers and promote a show featuring a bunch of them on the same night. The idea is to give these people an alternative to the grind of a pure open mic night. Pim used to do standup comedy (and might again in the future), so he was well aware of the difficulties of getting the appropriate breaks.

3/28/2009 - The Cabaret Chronicles
"On Wednesday, March 25th, I headed over to the Time Out NY Lounge to catch theSet NYC, which is a monthly variety show featuring up-and-coming performers in nearly every genre. On the night I went, there were a few singers (host RedWine, jazz/blues singer Anna Fiszman, and 22-year-old singer/songwriter Melanie Fontana), a few comedians (Liz Miele and Rob O'Reilly), a magician (Nick Ignazzi), and a dance team (Frida, Moncef and Ronja, who all hail from Sweden) set lasted about 10 minutes, and because the lineup was so varied, the time absolutely flew by! I spent a few minutes after the show chatting with Pim, who is one of the producers of theSet NYC, and he said that they work very hard to scout new talent in the city and provide a supportive atmosphere to allow these talents to showcase themselves and grow. Kudos, then, to Pim and the other founders/producers (R. Lai, L. Mordis, and R. Taliver) - from what I've seen, it looks like they are doing a terrific job of achieving their goals! I'll definitely be heading back for future performances - with no cover, no minimum, and a whole boatload of talent, it's a hard deal to beat!"

2/25/2009 - Cheap NYC Date Idea -- See New Talent at theSet

We are always keeping an eye out for great free and cheap things to do and our latest discovery is theSet NYC. ..It's a great choice for a cheap date night or a unique happy hour outing. 2/11/2009 - Variety shows are the new spice of theater
"Variety shows are back! And it’s not surprising that this time-honored genre should be resurgent at a time of economic distress. At its essence, the modern variety show—which usually features a neovaudevillian mix of music, comedy, dance and burlesque—is essentially a bargain: a way to see multiple performers flaunt their talents, ten for the price of one."
